Thirty

Hi friends!  I'm back, another year older and still trucking along.  I took a long leave of absence from my blog, but for good reason.  And thankfully, seconds before I fell apart completely from the mere stress of it all, it was over.  Like a tornado, it whooshed through my summer, leaving all things toppled and askew that stood in it's way.  Now I have a lot of cleaning up to do....

First off, I know you're dying to see the wedding cake I completed ages ago.  So sorry for the prolonged delay.  And although it took a lot of concentrated effort, I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome, and my two friends were both honored and delighted.

The wedding was gorgeous, the spirits were high, and the alcohol was flowing like a powerful river. Everyone had a fantastic time.  I was privileged to be a part of it all.

Second item of business to discuss, I turned 30 last month.  Can you believe it?  My best friend and I celebrate our birthdays just two days apart, so we threw a joint party, as is custom.  This year's theme was a 90's Prom.  It was a throwback to the year we actually attended the horrid event, 1996.  I won't go into great detail, but it was a smashing success.  I have a few fantastic pictures to share with you:

It was a near perfect night, I really couldn't have asked for a better celebration.  I don't know how I'll ever top it next year.   Any ideas?

Although the wedding and party planning took up a respectable amount of time, most of my summer was dedicated to making art making art making art.  The two shows I participated in this month went up last week.  Both receptions were well attended and I am now enthusiastically free of all of it.  I had an immediate revelation following the second opening:  I don't want to have any more shows.  The stress is overwhelming without the knowledge of a resulting reward.  Perhaps I will sell some, perhaps I won't.  And if I don't, then it will have been a lot of work for nothing, aside from self-improvement, of course. I have other projects underway right now, including some album covers.  I'm going to pursue commissioned work as long as I can.  Who knows, maybe I'll get restless and eat my words.
Here are some of the pictures from my collective shows:
You get the idea.  There were over 20 pieces altogether.  Kind of blows my mind just thinking about it.
I'm currently researching getting prints made of some of these paintings.  So hopefully I can get my etsy shop up and running again.

Well, it's definitely Fall in Portland.  The rain has arrived, and doesn't appear to be leaving anytime soon.  I plan to spend my afternoon reluctantly adhering my fenders back onto my bicycle.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. The cake is stunning! I love how it looks simple yet delicate.

Your birthday party looks awesome! I love the pics with the back ground drop cloth.

Your drawings look amazing! Brava on a job well done! At least you found out that you are not crazy about doing shows. I think that is important. Figuring out what you like and don't like about your creative endeavors. It's not fun anymore if it causes you stress.
