So, I've been very busy, as usual. As you know, I was off work last week for Spring Break. I filled my time well and wisely and it went by in what seemed like an instant. Now I'm begrudgingly back at work, and outside projects are piling up. On top of that, I moved (across the hall). I know it isn't far, but it still requires time, energy (and cleaning), and multiple hands for moving heavy objects.
Since the majority of my readers have never met me or seen my living space, I thought I'd post some pictures so you could get a bit of an inside view into what I like to surround myself with.
The desk was my mother's as a child. I absolutely love owning furniture with history and mixing the old and new. I can only imagine my mom as a little girl in braids complaining about doing her homework sitting at that desk. Makes me chuckle. The giant jar sitting on the corner of the table holds my cherished knitting needles in practically every size. And all the framed pictures in the corner are the brand new beginnings of my print collection. I have a better picture, just scroll down.
I don't know if you can tell, but I have somewhat of a grandma aesthetic. I love old florals, which cover my quilt, pillows, curtain, cups and vintage tin trays. The bedspread has also been in my family for quite some time.
A lot of the pieces that adorn my walls and sit atop my furniture are found objects from my life in Brooklyn, and go even as far back as my Eugene days. I have trouble letting go of things, and I can't go anywhere without these little trinkets and chotchkies. They represent a link between my present and my past and I love being reminded of places and people just by looking at a single broken figurine.
Each little animal has a story.
And here's my new wall of prints!
The one in the center is the favorite in my collection. It's by local Portland artist Cathy McMurray. I love her geometric shapes and subtle washes mixed with bold blocks of color. You should definitely check out her shop and pick up a piece. I kind of want everything. In the upper left hand corner is a print by a dear friend of mine, Michael Hsiung. Everything that comes out of his brain is hilarious, well designed and usually involves a fat man with a beard. The feller running with the chicken is a constant source of happiness for me. The smaller prints in the left bottom corner and upper right hand corner are from a charming little shop called Double Parlor. All of the items out of this etsy shop are incredible, just check out those wicked figurines!
That's the end of my bedroom tour. I hope that wasn't a total bore.
Here's a poppy little tune to reinvigorate you after that boring slideshow.
Take care and I'll be back next weekend with another update.

Love the top picture, i think i have a similar taste in old things, i bought an old handmade patchwork quilt off ebay recently and i love it!
ReplyDeleteB- This is lovely and inspiring. The chest of drawers is divine and you did right by not passing it up. About to embark on my own jobless move to a new city, your Colt 45 comment both hit home and soothed my nerves. Your space is so serene. Sweet dreams, indeed!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteI love your aesthetic! You've decorated beautifully. And kudos on that wonderful dresser. That purchase was worth the price, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip!
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your room. I love it. Everything is beautifully curated.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out a way to get invited to your house (on the opposite side of the country) and get the botanical school poster into my back pocket without you noticing. It's great & I'm quite envious! :)
