Sorry I've been so out of touch. I'd been planning to write an update awhile ago.......but then something happened, I got in a serious bike accident. I was pedaling my trusty steed home from work 12 days ago when a FedEx truck pulled out in front of me without warning. I smacked directly into the side of his vehicle, head first. I was immediately rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. I can piece together blurry moments from the incident to form a vague and choppy memory, but frankly, it's all pretty fuzzy. I know I was in the hospital being poked with needles while having x-rays taken of my brain. And I know I was terrified and feeling alone until my friends showed up and held my hands. I managed to escape the ER later that night with a concussion diagnosis. I hobbled away from the hospital with a swollen and purple face, 2 chipped teeth, a busted bicycle and a mixed feeling of relief and fear. I was smart enough to have been wearing my helmet during the accident, which probably saved my life that day (and if you don't own a brain bucket, I beg you to please go out and buy one! I swear, your hair will be fine). Recovery has not been fun. It's been awful, in fact, and will be a long and ongoing process. This is unlike anything I've ever experienced and hope to ever experience again. I'll spare you the pictures I took of my beat up face, but here you can see some of the damage to my bike.
Remember when she looked like this?
Soooo sweet. Aww. RIP Bianchi Volpe. You were a stellar ride.
I'm waiting until I feel comfortable to get on a bicycle again. But it will happen once I get over the fear. This accident has forever changed my approach to the roads.
I did buy a new helmet, though, since my last one has been compromised.
Purchasing the helmet was the easy part. I've been wearing it around the house. Baby steps.
As I slowly try to adapt to a new way of thinking and a new approach to life, I'm beginning to make some changes, life altering ones that I can only allude to here. You'll have to wait for the big news, sorry. Patience.
A lot of things have happened since the last time I wrote, but I don't have the brain power to go through all of it. So I'm just going to mention a couple things quickly, and then let you go ponder them.
It's almost Father's Day, and I have a new card in my etsy shop, yay!!! Take a look!
Father's Day is on the 18th, don't forget! And since you guys are so nice, and I appreciate you very much, I'm offering a 25% off coupon! Just enter the code "FRIENDS" at check out and you'll get a sweet discount. Don't forget to look at all my other nice things while you're there.
My last order of business is to show you the adorable tattoo I designed for my best girl, Lauren:
It's a silly little fox! The banner says, "she flies with her own wings" in Latin. It's the State of Oregon's motto, isn't it lovely? I'm fairly sure I live in the cutest place ever.
I'm leaving you with an elegant and beautiful music video from local band, Y La Bamba. Let it seep into your soul. Cheers!
I am so glad you are okay. That is scary what you went through! We just got M a tricycle and a helmet. Though she doesn't know how to ride by herself yet, she is very strict about wearing her helmet every time she gets on that trycicle. And insist on her shades if it's sunny. She cracks me up.
That sucks about the accident. Glad you're ok. I haven't had any accidents on my bike yet...hopefully never will! I'm anti-helmet but after reading this it's changing my mind.
I'm glad to hear you're ok! I got flipped off my bike by a moving truck in college and hit the sidewalk headfirst - helmets are a good thing! Don't let the bastards get you down - you will prevail! (And hopefully design more tattoos - that one is fab!)
i made sure to buy a fancy helmet that matched my bike: PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW YOU CAN BE SAFE & STYLISH!!! I am so sorry about your accident and am very happy you are going to be ok. I had tendinitis at the beginning of the year and had NO USE of my right hand for 2 months. Very hard time, so I can relate to a cumbersome recovery. Just keep your head up, remember all of your blessings and I am sure you will be riding in no time (while avoiding every fed ex truck at all possible costs). Best wishes for a healthy & complete recovery - glad we still have a talented lady like you i the world making sweet pictures :D
Much love, Brooke. D might have mentioned that I would be happy to treat you with a homeopathic remedy that could help you recover from the non-physical, non-visible trauma--just let me know if you are game. xo
You're a tough nut to crack, thankfully. But I always knew that. ;) Wish you could come to our octopus bbq this weekend - we may have a secret musical guest who may be singing in some band that may be at the end of this post...
Awesome post (except for the accident part-- feel better)! But love the tattoo and the new card and the cool helmet.
