It's the newest version of my old bike, the Bianchi Volpe, so I feel right at home on it. Beautiful, isn't it? Getting back on wasn't easy, and I feel like I'm being overly cautious and hyper aware, out there (if there is such a thing). It's a slow healing process. Every day gets a little bit easier and more comfortable. Before I know it I'll be having careless(ish) fun again pedaling through the streets and beyond city limits. I'm hoping to get out for an extra long ride soon. Unfortunately, I was out of town for Portland's Naked Bike Ride, which was Saturday. I participated two years ago and had an exceptionally exhilarating time. Thankfully, I had good reason to miss it this year.
And now we come to the latest project that's been taking up the majority of my time the last couple weeks. My cousin got married on Saturday and I agreed to make her a whimsical wedding cake. This is something I've had a considerable experience doing in the past, but left most of it behind when I moved out of New York and to PDX. Even though it stresses me out to no end, I'm always happy that I've done it after it's all over (as long as it turns out the way I plan). Anyway, without further ado, here's the final product:
I made the toppers too, out of marzipan.
It's a topsy turvy cake, which means I had to angle the tops of each tier to give it a funky look. I was a nervous wreck driving it all the way out to Eastern Oregon, 3 hours from home. But I brought it in pieces and assembled it in the reception hall to ensure that it made the long trip (but I was still freaking out, mind you). Once the cake was put together I was finally able to relax and enjoy the wedding, which was lovely. Now it will probably be another year before I do a cake like this again. That's about how often I'm being asked these days, which is ok with me :)Now it's back to work on some odd illustration jobs. In the meantime, here are a couple of sketches and drawings that I've done as of late. Follow the links if you'd like to purchase any of them!
Not for sale yet
Okay, now that I've bombarded you with all of this artwork I'm selling, I'm going to grab a beer and chill out for the evening (and maybe watch some Glee, shhhhh, don't tell).

She is a beauty! Ride safely, my friend.
